For me, trust in a president comes down to leadership and command responsibility. A president is the captain of the ship—if the system under them fails, the responsibility ultimately points to the top. What concerns me is the perception of weak accountability in government. Corruption has long been a problem in the Philippines, but strong leadership should show relentless effort to confront it. When reports of irregularities or misuse of public funds continue to surface without clear and decisive action, it raises questions about how firmly the system is being managed. I’m also concerned about the growing national debt. Borrowing can help fund development, but it must come with transparency and a clear long-term plan. Otherwise, the burden may simply be passed on to future generations. Then there are the big-ticket infrastructure projects. Infrastructure can drive economic growth, but these massive projects also carry risks of overpricing, poor planning, and corruption if oversight is weak. When billions of public funds are involved, citizens deserve full transparency and accountability. A president may not personally manage every agency or sign every contract, but under the principle of command responsibility, the tone of governance always starts at the top. If corruption persists, debt rises, and public spending raises questions, people naturally look to the leader in charge. That’s why trust, for me, becomes difficult to give. In leadership—especially at the highest level—power must always come with visible responsibility
