Matibag, Melvin

Atty. Melvin A. Matibag is a Filipino lawyer and seasoned public servant recently appointed as Director of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. in February 2026.  Before this appointment, he had a long career in both government and politics: • He served as acting Cabinet Secretary under former President Rodrigo Duterte in 2022 and held leadership positions in the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), including as Secretary General (until his resignation from the party in 2023).  • He has also worked in executive roles such as general manager of the Manila International Airport Authority, president and CEO of the National Transmission Corporation, and as a legal instructor and law dean at universities.  • He is married to Ma. Rene Ann Lourdes “Ann” Matibag, currently serves as the Representative (Congresswoman) of Laguna’s 1st Legislative District — first elected in 2022 and re-elected for a second term.
