Please allow users to submit case records even when the exact filing date is not publicly available or cannot be reliably verified. In many public-interest profiles, especially older legal cases, only the filing year or partial date is available from credible sources. Requiring an exact date can prevent accurate submissions or push contributors to guess, which may introduce errors. A better approach would be to make the filing date field optional, or allow partial-date formats such as: Year only Month and year only “Unknown exact date” “Not publicly specified” This would improve data accuracy, reduce forced guessing, and make it easier to submit verified case information based only on what is actually supported by public records.
When adding legal cases for public officials, there are situations where the exact filing date is not available in court summaries, media archives, or other reliable public sources. For example, some cases clearly show only the filing year but not the exact day and month. In those situations, users should still be able to submit the case using verified partial information instead of being blocked by a required exact-date field. This would benefit researchers, contributors, and moderators by improving submission quality and reducing inaccurate entries.
